Moscot, New York's alternative Cutler and Gross.

Since the 1960's Cutler and Gross of London have been producing high quality frames with a decidely retro influence, specifically a matinee idol type influence.  With Hand made frames and solid elegant construction, they are considered by some as the pinnacle of eyewear, and a go to band for many a celebrity, especially considering the fact they do not brand their products leaving the wearer to express their own individuality rather than having a logo emblazoned on their sunglasses arms.

One thing however which puts some people off from Cutler and Gross is the high price of the frames, as starting from around £260 for even the most basic styles with non prescription lenses and increasing depending on the lens and frame style, they are out of reach of many consumers.

For anyone loving the quality, build and pedigree of Cutler and Gross but unable to afford them, the New York brand Moscot offers an alternative.  Started n 1915 by an Eastern European Emigree, the store has been located in Manhattans Orchard Street since 1951, and also specializes in hand made glasses frames, all of which are made on premises and exported around the world, and all of which are heavily influenced from their own catalogue of Glasses from the 1940s, 50s and 60s.

Prices start from £140.00 plus prescription, and some sungasses can be gotten in the sub £200 price range, offering excellent value for elegant products still firmly in the luxury goods category.
