Frieze Art fair 2010 closes, puts to bed any theories that the top end of the Art market is suffering.

In our last post we discussed the Art London show, and how poor a year all but the exhibitors showing the cheapest works had, we closed that article with a question, has the recession affected the art market to a point that it is difficult to see a upturn for a while yet?  Or is it just that the Art London fair has become stale?

The Frieze 2010 closed and the numbers and volumes o sales displayed, that at least at the highest end, the Art market is doing quite well thank-you very much.

The first day saw a Hirst valued at 94 million sold, more than the entire value of the Art London's sales, so although the lower end of the Art world is spending more conservatively, the truly rich are continuing to spend in volumes.

All that remains is to see how long it is before Frieze becomes as stale as Art London and the Affordable art fair.
