As recently as five or ten years ago, the launch of custom luxury luggage for a new sports car, even a Ferrari, meant little more than a artisan produced set of branded luggage which would be, despite the marques weight and authority, fairly reasonably priced. Now in this age of uber luxury, when everything from the lace tips on your shoes, to clothes on your back must be of the highest caliber in the heady circles of the global elite, even the launch of a new BMW requires custom made luggage from Louis Vuitton.
And why not. As the BMW press release says, "Exceptional luggage for an exceptional automobile.", and the i8 BMW is an exceptional automobile, no question. The carbon fibre, intelligent design, plug in hybrid, is an awesome powerhouse of form and function, allowing the driver to travel in style that does not mean compromising and being forced into a Toyota Prius while caring about the environment.
But this article is about the luggage, not the car. The new range is available upon request only. And is made of carbon black, laser etched, carbon fibre, a first for Louis Vuitton. In addition, trimmings are all in leather, metal hardware, and black and electric blue microfibre lining. Echoing the i8's colouring.
The range consists of the Weekender GM i8, Garment Bag i8, Business Case i8 and small Weekender PM i8. All pieces are available now from Louis Vuitton flagship locations in London, Paris, Munich, Milan, Moscow, Dubai, New York and Los Angeles starting April 1st. Prices start from £3800.
