Subscription boxes are the "hot" item right now. Since everyone is super bust and works super hard, they have no time to do things like, choosing what to wear, buy etc. In times past, the wealthy would have PA's, maids, butlers, a host of staff to do all the little things, such as laying out clothing, bringing breakfast, ordering groceries, and surprising their masters with the occasional treat.
Subscription boxes give this to everyone, without the need to do that pesky thing that everyone hates, interacting with other human beings. Delivered to your door a curated selection of goods gives everyone the chance to have a curated selection of given items monthly.
Except they are mostly pretty rubbish. The "selections" that these companies give are generally pretty awful, and can be bashed out by anyone with a spare Sunday per month to browse online and order their own items.
