Recently, and with very little fanfare, Mulberry started to produce bags in a brand new material. Essentially this material utilises a special process to bond fine pony skin hair to their signature croc print calf leather. Over time, according to the statement on their site, this will wear out, and the hairs will shed in areas of use, so this one is not a keeper. They also warn of the product being particularly fragile, and needing extra care and attention.
At present they have produced only two items in this material, known as "Crocodile Haircalf", a tote shopper shown top and a small shoulder bag below. Presumably the extreme care that needs to be taken with this has prevented them from producing more bags from their range in this fabric, as their main staple, the compact bag with lots of external utility pockets the tillie, along with others in their range are sensible elegant workhorse bags for many women.
These bags are available now from Mulberry, priced at £2000 for the Bayswater tote, and £1200 for the Lily shoulder bag.
I have seen these in their stores, they all these warnings, like u have 2 b super careful not 2 damage the material etc etc. if i paid £1200 4 a bag I wuld EXPECT it 2 last and take abuse. Not 4 me srry.
