Chapard have created and released for sale the worlds most expensive sunglasses, beating easily the solid gold offerings from commercial outfits such as gold and wood, and even one off exclusives like the emerald sunglasses from a Australian Jeweller offered for some £170,000, Chopard is asking for it's creation a whopping £3,000,000, for those who think there are too many zeroes, it reads right, 3 million pounds.
What gives them the right to ask such a great deal of money? Well, firstly they are solid gold, 60 grams of it, and handmade by de rigo vision, secondly, they incorporate 51 fully cut river diamonds, clocking in a grand total of 4 carats of diamonds, then the setting, is unique to these frames, making each diamond stand out specially above all other commercially available settings, making this not merely a pair of sunglasses, but in fact a piece of haute joialliare for the face.
Chopards glasses have always been expensive since their first release, with most frames costing £300 and up, however this new piece, clearly designed to be a vanity item for the brand rather than a true consumer product, clearly positions itself in a sphere all of its own, not necessarily a bad thing, however, it would be interesting to see if these one of a kind glasses become a trend or remain just that, a one of a kind.
