Ralph Lauren's Purple Label not Made in England anymore sadly.

Ralph Lauren's Top line Purple Label range, with Suits priced from £2500 up to £5000, Outerwear in the thousands, shirts for £280 and up, and accessories the high end of the pricing structure, have in the last few years quietly made the choice to lower the quality stakes.

When first released the line used all of the finest makers of clothing to produce their wares, the shoes were made by Edward Green, the Suits by Chester Barrie etc etc.  However, since 2008 the 'Made in England' Moniker have been missing from the Purple Label Suiting.

The reason being is they are no longer produced by Chester barrie, rather by St Andrews, the Italian Brand, and shouting Made in Italy for a brand that so strongly maintains a traditional Anglo American image is rather pointless.

It is a pity that Ralph Lauren have made this Decision, the Chester Barrie clothes fall famously well on the body, and flatter most men even off the peg, it remains to be seen if they continue to follow this trend with their shoes and shirtings, perhaps the shoes will be made by Tod's or something (sic)
