In 2004 German book publisher teNeus, known for their high end selection of hardcover books covering luxury destinations, released a large hardcover special edition entitled 'Luxury Toys'. Featuring a wide selection of expensive and luxurious products ranging from the expensive and exclusive boats such as the Wallypower yacht on it's cover, to genuine one off sky's the limit items.
Obviously it's purpose was as a sort of luxury-pornography, the wealthy might buy it to see whats out there, and leave it on their coffee table if they were particularly gauche so they could say "look i've got that", but it's true audience are those who wan't to just stare at all these obscenely priced items in wonder.
Well, time has passed and what was a barometer of luxury for its time, is now merely a publication detailing what was luxurious and expensive back in 2004, it speaks volumes of the very nature of luxury, that once it has been consumed, it is no longer of interest, hence the original book being discounted from it's £50 price in teNeus online store to only £10.
Therefore, they have published a new version, entitled 'Luxury Toys For Men', which actually makes quite a lot of sense, since it is Men who have an interest in, and who purchase most of these luxury toys. Available now from teNues online store for £50, or just wait 3 years and pick it up for a tenner when they release 'Luxury Toys For Men (volume 2)'.
