Gant is a strange sort of Brand really, in many ways it is the true American Clothing Brand, and although Ralph Lauren is the market leader for American Influenced European style, it is Benard Gant, who started his brand in 1949 that deserves the accolades that brand has earned. After starting his brand, Mr Gant first started making shirts in New Haven, and exported his strongly East Coast style all over the U.S., including, as the subject of this post states, a store within Yale University supplying from the 1960's shirts and other clothing to it's students.
However time is not always kind to those with the idea, but champion those with the business savvy to make it look like it was their idea and do it properly, such is the way with Gant, Following too much agressive expansion focusing on quantity rather than quality in the 1980's, and a general decline, the Brand was acquired by a Swedish Corporation in 1990, and this has let to a return to its root's a genral restructuring of the company back to what it was before, along with exciting New century additions.
Therefore Gant has re-established itself on the world stage, a collaboration with Michael Bastian which we wrote about recently producing solid collections that have astounded Critics, it's latest move is the re-opening of it's Yale University Campus store, and the beginning once again of it's Co-Op range. For 2011 it is beginning with the original basic - the shirt, but this range is sure to expand over time, and we will likely see Gant continue to go from strength to strength.
Aside from the excellent quality of Gant's products amazing value is another feature that makes them stand out from the pack, these new shirts for example are only £75 each. Available now in the United States and United Kingdom, the rest of the world will have to wait a little before being able to enjoy these.
