Ralph Lauren Release New Range titled 'Denim and Supply' meant to evoke artistic individuality.

From this Fall/Winter Ralph Lauren has added a new range to its selection, aside from the well known Black, Polo, RLX, Purple, Rugby and Golf ranges, we also have Denim and Supply.  This new range is and offshoot of Polo Ralph Lauren, in the same way that the Rugby line was, however, whereas the Rugby line took the Sports type edge from Ralph Laurens Polo, and launched it in a direction of capsule stores, and a new line, Denim and Supply takes certain pieces that are periodically seen from season to season at Polo, and with a heavy dash of Marketing zeal, has pushed in a different direction.

The marketing gods would have us believe, that Ralph Laurens new range is inspired by the individual and unique styles of bohemian arty types in Brooklyns warehouse neighbourhoods, and in this vein has created capsule stores inside warehouses.  As anyone who is familiar with New York knows, Brooklyn was popular in New York for artists for the same reason that East London was popular for artists in London, because Artists are poor, there are lots of vacant buildings you can squat in, and if you do want to pay rent, the rent is cheap.  However, once again like London's East End, the area is having money injected into it to improve it, and it is therefore beginning to become a bit gentrified, so people who would normally not go there are finding it an interesting spot to visit.

And it is in this spirit that Denim and Supply is born, its not really Bohemian, or arty, and its certainly not Individual, what is individual about everyone picking clothes from a selection of 20 shirts, 10 pairs of trousers, 10 jackets and a few pairs of Boots?  And they all look the same anyway.  The truth behind the marketing is this : "heres a facsimile of the trampy style that artists wear because they cant afford to replace their clothes, and they buy extra clothes from second hand shops, repackaged in a way that idiots will buy, because lets face it you can never pull off an artists style, and wouldn't wan't to either, plus, for good measure we will stick it in some run down warehouses in Brooklyn, an area which used to be arty but is now saturated by idiots".

This is our opinion, the strength of it is based upon the Hypocrosy of the Marketing campaign, in reality, the clothes themselves are not bad at all, perfect for wrapping up warmly in the city on a chilly Winters Day, and excellent for a relaxed style, its just a pity they feel the need to ram all that crap down our throats about how arty and Individual the pieces are.  As for pricing, this new range is priced quite keenly, most of the wool sweaters are priced around £150,  the jackets around £300, here is a link to their website, : http://www.ralphlauren.co.uk/category/index.jsp?categoryId=5013411

  1. I TOTALLY agree, these affected semi hipster/semi arty styles are nothing but that, and affectation and pretension, I dont know when brands decided we are stupid enough to believe all this marketing crap, but there you go, thats life.
