Smythson has always occupied a well respected position in the luxury firmament, it instantly conjour's thoughts of the establishment, and rightly so, as it bears not one but three Royal Warrant's. If a person wishes to purchase luxury stationery, or merely just stationery of the absolute highest quality, Smythson has for nearly 150 years been the only destination. And with the same age old techniques, such as genuine copper-plate printing they always used, it will remain so for years to come.
Not only has it always been very good at producing fine stationery, it has also produced the highest quality accessories for stationery, such as leather beaurea's in exotic leathers, card holders, envelope holders, travel stationery cases, and other such bit's. Over the last 15 years, it has attempted to recreate it's successes with stationery, within the field of Leather Good's producing range after range of leather goods, covering everything from passport holders to ladies handbags, and with a seasonal collection every twice a year, some of which become popular enough to become permanent some which just fade away. The principal flavour of these leather accessories has been high quality, classic styles and good value, with hand made calf leather briefcases retailing for £750.
With their new brand director Samantha Cameron, Smythson has been heading in a different direction, firmly upwards in terms of price, and slightly broader in appeal. The new 'Gresham' collection is testament to this. Made from black Goatskin, lined with Navy suede, and trimmed in nile blus grosgrain, all hardware is palladium plated brass, and with a selection of styles which for the first time with Smythson can be called 'cosmopolitan', aside from all these details, with prices starting from £230 for Leather Wallets, and £1200 for leather briefcases, it is pretty clear the market Smythson wishes to appeal to, the firm and dedicated luxury lovers.
