Jean Paul Gaultier releases worlds first designer Bullion.

In the world of today, pretty much every commodity is accessible to all peoples, even the rarest and most valuable, and even those perceived previously as the preserve of the very wealthiest individuals are open to all.  An excellent example of this is Gold, this precious metal still manages to drive commodity markets, and in all times remain a steady and reliable investment, to acquire gold in times past meant either massive amounts of jewellery, melting them down and creating the commodity, or purchasing actual gold bars, such as the good delivery bars which weigh some 1000 troy ounces, and cost £300,000 each at current market rates.  However, since nowadays vending machines can be found in shopping malls where it is possible to simply buy bullion from tiny 2.5 gram bars right up to 100 gram and more, anyone with as little as £35 can start a collection of Bullion.

It was therefore merely a matter of time before designer gold bars started to be released, after all, if gold buying is becoming a mass consumer habit, what better thing to do than release branded bars and capitalise.  Jean-Paul Gaultier has been the first to design one, in collaboration with Texan Bullion traders Dillon Gage Metals, and weigh one troy ounce, a press release by DGM stated:

“Never before has a fashion icon designed a gold ingot. The Gaultier bar is a one-of-a-kind, limited-quantity collector’s piece that not only is a great investment but it will also become a piece of history. The price of gold has risen more than fivefold in the last 10 years, outperforming almost every other investment,” said Terry Hanlon, president of Dillon Gage Metals. “The Gaultier one-ounce bar is the perfect Valentines, birthday or graduation gift for someone special.”

Although Gaultier may be the first, you can be certain he will not be the last, we expect to see many more designer gold bars released, as commodity buying becomes more and more commonplace.  And the price for the Gaultier/DGM bar?  They trade at £1,193 plus a £16 handling fee, which, since the current market price for a troy ounce is £1071.89, means the Gaultier branding costs you an extra £136 over the market price of the Gold weight.  A worthwhile investment?  Thats for others to decide.
