LVMH Raises The Bar on Cognac Luxury with Hennessy Beauté Du Siècle.

As the title of this post states, This new release from Hennessy, the Hennessy Beauté Du Siècle, raises the bar in the cognac luxury stakes, brass tacks first, it costs £120,000, and although this is not the first Cognac to ever find itself valued at this price, a bottle of Croizet Cuvee Leonie sold at auction in china last year for £125,000, this is the first bottle of Cognac to ever be sold at retail for a price this high.

The Packaging is the thing here in reality, for example the aforementioned Leonie Croizet was valued such purely for it's contents, being a 153 Year old Bottle and no more.  The contents of this Hennessy offerring are no slouch, being comprised of eaux-de-vie stretching back to 1907, however it doesn't have anything that particularly makes it worth £120,000, that is found within he casing.

Created by Jean-Michel Othoniel to commemorate the birth of Killian Hennessy the Sixth generation head of the House who died last year, the packaging used the expertise of no less than ten artists and craftsmen, the Decanter is made from Baccarat crystal, along with the four Gold leaf inlaid Glasses, and is in the shape of a sample flask used in the cellars of the House of Hennessy, the metal lattice is made by guerlain, and the chest is made from aluminium and mirrored glass, along with a Bronze key, and a mechanism which makes the bottle rise up at the touch of a button for consumption.  It is the combination of this exceptional packaging, along with an exceptional Cognac which gives this Package it's £120,000 price tag.
