From the mind of Mark Farhat comes a new menswear brand, Mark/Giusti. The brand is interesting as rather than coming from he origin of purely Fashion, or an offshoot of a larger brand with a fashion background, the creator has a background in business, and then focused on luxury brands, before finally working within a creative industry for an accessories brand. To some extent then, then brand has been built from the perspective of "what will sell" rather than "what I Love".
This approach can be clearly seen in the products, four ranges, Romanza (Weekend bag), La Dolce Vita (Day to Day accessories), Palatina (Travel luggage) and Bring Back Time (Business luggage and gym equipment). These ranges would seem to cover all the 'bases' so to speak, and therefore give a succinct array of choices for he modern man, however, in practice what we have is a slightly cold presentation, the business focused approach seeps out of every line and stitch, none of the passion evident in small startups or even inspired big designers is seen here, it is almost as if the brand is frightened to design anything too daring in case it doesn't sell well. And so we are left with rather plain uninspired pieces which could rather too easily be found in the likes of House Of Fraser's Luggage department.
Nevertheless, for all the criticism, credit must be given where it is due, and here that lies with the fact that the items are very well made, and that they are not very expensive, these days it is difficult to find a handmade italian leather briefcase for less than £1000, even Tumi's all leather offerings are in the £1100 price range nowadays, but with Mark/Giusti we find all the prices for luggage rest between £500and £900, only the very largest of their products, the weekender from the 'Romanza' range retails higher at £1275.
So there you have it, slightly dull but reasonably priced and very well made Mens Accessories to be found here, good for day to day bags, or trip bags that you don't need to worry too much about damaging or loosing. Frankly it is a safe place to start, and in the future perhaps the brand could afford to take some more adventurous design cues. For those interested you can buy online at www.markgiusti.com.
