B & W Produce A5 & A7 Airplay Speakers.

Bowers & Wilkins Have expanded their range of Airplay Speakers to the power of two, meaning that including the Airplay integrated Zeppelin they now have three Airplay speakers in their Range.

The New speakers are strictly Airplay only, removing the dock completely, so they are strictly for the consumer who either does not want to dock, or does not have the equipment to do so, however given the way that apple consumers tend to have not one Apple product, but several or all, that is highly unlikely, this is therefore for the consumer who simply doesn't want to dock their iThing.

The production of two Airplay speakers is a clever marketing ploy on behalf of B & W, if for example they were to produce just one, there is a chance it would be either too large, or too small, or to quiet,or too powerful and consequently, either too cheap, or too expensive, by producing two, they have given themselves a much wider slice of the economic cake so to speak.

Design wise they appear to be a large version of the B&W MM-1 Desktop computer speaker, in fact, they look like two MM-1's stuck together.  Nothing wring with that though, the MM-1 is a most attractive piece of minimalist design, which happily extends to these larger cabinets.

What a customer actually get her is the A5, which contains two 25mm Nautilus tube aluminium tweeters, and a pair of 10cm mid/low range drivers powered by 20 Watts of amplification, or with the A7, 2 25mm tweeters of the same type, plus 2 75mm midrange tweeter, and a 15cm subwoofer, with 5 dedicated Class D amplifiers, giving 25Watts to the tweeters and 50 Watts to the Sub, not only this, the DAC in both can up-sample audio to 24bit/96KHz.

Both units will be available from mid October, just in time for Xmas, and cost £400 for the A5 and £700 for the A7.
