In a bid to capture some of the huge "single-cup" machine market currently dominated by Tassimo and Nespresso, a market which accounts for in the U.S. alone $8 Billion and has grown some 143% in the last year, Starbucks have released their very own single-cup machine. Dubbed the "Verismo", it seeks to take food from the mouths of it's competitors by offering something different.
The "something different" is the addition of a slot which allows a milk pod, make from fine milk powder, once the milk pod is placed in the machine, hot pressurised water turns it instantly into milk for Latte's, the brands biggest daily seller worldwide.
The machines will be priced from £150 for the model pictured up to £250 for a top model with LED display, as yet they have only been announced for a U.S. launch, however a worldwide roll out is sure to follow, this prediction is not hard to make, after all, when Starbucks first announced they would be entering the single-cup market, shares in the Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc, which dominate the market, saw a marked drop, that sort of brand loyalty means starbucks know they can produce these worldwide and they will sell.
