Way back in April of this year we announced the soon to be released pen-of-the-year 2012 Graf Von Faber Castell special edition, the post can be found HERE. Well, it appears that certain people felt that the 2012 pen-of-the-year was not special enough, and so they have gone on to produce another, even more limited edition of the 2012 edition.
This takes its cues from the originals design, but whereas the original was made from wetlands wood and solid gold, this edition is solid gold, and the gold of the barrel has been etched to actually appear like a piece of wood, a no doubt time consuming process, which is reflected in the final price.
As with the other, a large citrine sits on top the pen cap, and as with the other, the pen cap and tip, and nib are all solid gold, again, this also comes in M,F and B widths, all "run in" by hand. The principle differences are the already mentioned finely worked barrel in solid gold, and 4.6 carats of brilliant cut diamonds around the citrine on the cap.
The purpose apparently is not only to produce an ultra limited exclusive edition in time for christmas, but also to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the pen-of-the-year with a bang. Available now from very limited outlets including Harrods, it costs £60,000 per edition.
