New from Hermes comes the Rallye 24 tableware collection, this eclectic and sporty selection of fine porcelain takes the now legendary Chain d'Ancre motif and blows it up large, twinned with bold border colours, the delicate links of the Chain d'Ancre have been given a grading effect, to make them reminiscent of the 1970's grand prix logos, and blowing them up large and intertwining them in the way used here reminds of a race track, rather than chain links. Finally, the application of bold colours makes us think of the team colours of racing drivers.
All in all this is a dynamic and stylish new collection, a step away from the more refined and formal offerings Hermes makes, its playful and creative stylings lend an air of youthful exuberance, which is not limited merely to the design of the pattern, but which also finds itself expressed in the shapes of the pieces themselves, with oblongs, ovals, and even square curves.
The collection offers two boxed sets of small pieces, rather than individual pieces, giving the consumer the chance to own a complete set, a set of 6 small plates for £800, and a set of 6 tumblers that mix and match with the plates for £550, additionally on offer are large laquer platters in black and red, costing £950 each, and multicoloured oval platters for £400, a large black or blue tart platter can be purchased for £300, and a square curved plate selection is available for £300, finally setting off the whole collection is a centre square vase for £500.
The collection is available from April 2013 in Hermes boutiques worldwide.
