The year of the Snake has not been so saturated as the year of the Dragon was back in 2012 with Dragon themed merchandise, back then we saw no less than 5 luxury mobile phones, 10 luxury pens, and an absolute dearth of lower level pieces all designed to cash in on the vast Asian wealth that follows the Chinese Lunar Calendar.
Nonetheless, there are several pieces that have been developed, although, seemingly with more forethought and care than that of the Dragon year items, one of the nicest pieces commemorate not only the year of the Snake, but also Montegrappa's 100th anniversary. This pen which is produced in a strictly limited quantity of 888 pieces in sterling silver, and 88 pieces in Solid White Gold, is formed from deep red brown 'Pietra" resin, and is driven by a Piston, and has an ebonite feeder, attached to an 18k gold nib, all of which is set off by a startling snake design wrapped round the body of the pen, and Carnelian eyes and pen cap details.
No pricing information available at present, but expect it to cost in the region of £12,000 for the solid gold model, and £3500 for the Silver model, available from the end of June 2013.
