The White Barn Inn, Kennebunk, Maine, has chosen to celebrate its 40th anniversary by creating a cocktail, and attempting to claim the "worlds most expensive cocktail" crown, as we explained in our post on Salvatore Calabrese's "Legacy" cocktail, which costs £4,500 per glass, and contains genuinely rare ingredients, there is a big difference between cocktails of the like of Mr Calabrese's, and "novelty" cocktails, which contain above average ingredients, and some sort of "extra" that ramps up the price, the White Barn Inn's falls into the latter category, of being a novelty cocktail.
What the cocktail offers is Hangar One Vodka, St Germain Elderflower Liquer, Fresh Squeezed Grapefruit Juice, Pomegranate Juice and Rosewater, so its what you would expect from a £30 cocktail basically, the extra? A 4-carat emerald cut Ruby, hence the name "Ruby Red Cocktail", the drink is priced at $40,000, or around £31,000, and will be available from June, and is a one of a kind, dont expect to order these all night, if you are crazy enough to want to.
Thing is, if trying for worlds most expensive, they failed, as in London, Movida nightclub has, and does, offer the "Flawless", a classic champagne which uses Remy Martin Louis xiii and includes a flawless 11-carat diamond ring. costing £35,000, or $44,000. We believe the White Barn Inn however is not trying for worlds most expensive, merely they are offerring a high priced novelty cocktail to celebrate their 40th anniversary in style.
