Lovers of luxury and innovation will no doubt remember, and pine for, colette, the revolutionary French store famous for it's numerous collaborations with ultra high-end brands, and for it's remarkable ability to continuously be regarded as hip and trendy even after 20 years in business, famously being named "trendiest store in the world" by Forbes in 2005.
When its founder Colette Rousseaux retired, the remaining people took the very French decision to close its doors, saying "it's not the same without Colette". For the final weeks, they collaborated with several luxury brands to produce special limited pieces. One of these brands was Saint Laurent Paris.
It appears that Saint Laurent Paris under Anthony Vaccarello enjoyed that experience a great deal, because they have opened a separate brand "Saint Laurent Rive Droite" of eclectic branded pieces, on the the exact Rue Honore location of colette.
Many of the pieces are literally re-issues of the colette Saint Laurent Paris final collection. The tote bags in black canvas with bold white text being an example. Here we mention a slight deviation. For the final collection, Saint Laurent Paris daubed their logo on Bang & Olufsen Beoplay P2 speakers. They have now, for the new Rive Droite brand gone with A1 and A9 speakers, for £380 and £3,500 respectively.
We must admit, this is little disappointing, it's hardly innovative, they seem to have thought "we made lots of money from that colette collab, lets take their store and open a Saint Laurent version". But that being said, there are a few cute little Saint Laurent branded accessories. It is unlikely to last beyond a few seasons however, as it lacks the charm and originality of Colette Rousseuax's colette. Unsurprisingly really, as even her protege's, business partner's, and her daughter felt trying to attempt what Saint Laurent are attempting was too big an ask.
