Baccarat's New Crystal collection the L'Esprit des Bois collecion.

Baccarat has been producing Crystal since 1764, so established is it that it regularly features in several works of grand French Literature as a landmark to orientate the reader to the characters position.  for example in the second part of Jean Paul Sarte's 1950's Tryptich on the events leading up to the second world war the Anti Hero was travelling through the Baccarat region he reminisced about the high quality  crystal their factories produced.

Being so established, they tend to have their set collections and release additions to these, and regularly release special edition vases, in combination with various small items of crystal ware.  However compete new collections are rarely produced by the house.

It is with this on mind then that we find this new collection of Crystal, which has been designed by Dutch designer Marcel Wanders so exciting.  Featuring a selection of decanters, candles and decanters.

The collection is heavily influenced by nature and features flower and tree designs etched into the crystal to evoke this sense, combined with an unusual design of base unit, where the glass cannot be stood on its own on the table, but has to be used with the solid base.  This has two effects, it evokes the sense of a tree in the forest, firmly rooted in the ground, and also makes these items more than simply homewares, it elevates them to a collection of decorative crystal ware items also.

The Baccarat L'Esprit des Bois collection will be available from The Harrods Concession in London, as this is their only London based boutique.
