Alfred Dunhill Private Members Club Unofficially no longer exists.

As we have discussed here, Alfred Dunhill has followed the trend of many brands and in the last 5 years attempted to upscale its image, to claim a higher pedestal in the luxury brand pantheon, essentially to make more money.  The biggest and most sweeping change that they have instituted would be the flagship store in each country.  Our article on this can be found Here, Rather than being merely a store each flagship is called a 'house' and incorporates a store, bespoke salon, barber, spa and Private Members Club.

That is to say Did include a Private Members Club, well heeled clientele have written on various style blogs about how dead the members club has been, and that bar the opening, and any special events, staff outnumber patrons on any night you may care to mention.  Sources inside Dunhill have leaked the fact that due to the spectacular failure of the Private Members club, they have simply renamed it as 'Cellar Bar' and anyone may now enter to drink there.

We don't blame Dunhill for this move, the location is out of the way, and seriously, who would want to go to a basement bar in a shop for drinks?  No information on whether or not their Tokyo, Hong Kong or Shanghai 'Houses' have followed this trend, however, purely using the rather shaky basis of assumption, it is likely that London and Tokyo would have Followed the same strategy and Hong Kong and Shanghai may not have, the Former have well established and vibrant night life spots of varying levels of exclusivity the make a basement in store bar redundant, whereas the latter, having a safe reliable spot for expats to drink in is a welcome relief, even in a shop, being a British shop makes it feel like home a bit.
