Pictured above is a image which was taken from the Loro Piana Spring/Summer Catalogue for 2011, the shoes depicted are the Tassel Walk shoe, a style which was brought in to replace the exceptionally popular City walk shoe.
The City walk is a similar Tassel loafer to the Tassel walk, however the principle difference being that the city walk had no actual sole, it was designed as an elegant boating shoe, and had a block, almost driving shoe type sole and was released in 2008, however customers wore the shoe so much since they so loved it, that they wore the thin sole designed for boating out, and complained to Loro Piana, hence after one season the style was discontinued.
Jump forward to 2010 the Tassel walk shoe pictured was released, more of a shoe than a boating style, with a solid sole and heel, longer and slimmer, and not quite as popular as the City Walk, it is still a beautiful shoe, and considerably more expensive also costing £750. However costumers still love the cute profile of the City walk, therefore Loro Piana have re-introduced the style for Autumn/Winter 2011-2012 with a solid rubber sole in white, similar to the sole on the boot style pictured below.
Priced at £650 this new City Walk is in our opinion a mistake, an elegant style like a tassel loafer can work well with a solid sole, or even with no sole, like its original version, but with a chunky white rubber sole, the style fails to achieve the purpose, which is casual elegance with a fun twist.
