Leica have surprised no-one by releasing their newest camera addition, we say surprised no-one, as it has been mentioned on their website that a new camera would be released for well over a month now, and that it would be a "Mini M", essentially a compact version of the M series camera, and, unsurprisingly, thats exactly what we have been shown.
The new compact completely moves away from the business model of the ultra compact series Leica produce in conjunction with panasonic, and looks more like the X series which, it in fact is an extension of, being called the "X Vario', it is therefore, more of an addition to the X range than a true Miniature M series camera.
The new camera does however offer some features which make it stand out from the current X2 camera, such as 1080p video, a 16.2 megapixel sensor, specific features which facilitate the capture of images in low light at top quality, a 3" monitor on the rear, and hot-shoe for viewfinder on the top means users may select either option when taking photographs.
The other secrets hidden within its all metal body are, it is particularly easy to use, in fact, this camer has been designed with it in mind that the user does not require to constantly adjust settings if they do not want to, rather, they have the ability to use the mode selector wheel and lens selector to choose basic settings, and shoot away, thereby making it as easy to use as the D-Lux series of ultracompacts.
The new X vario camera will be available worldwide from the end of July 2013, and will cost £2,250, and will include a leather camera protector, and leather carrying strap set exclusive to the UK. Alternatively the camera can be purchased without extras for only £2150.
Also available as accessories at time of launch wil be alternative carrying straps with protective flap for £80, day to day leather case for £180, wrist strap with protective flap for £60, and the leather camera case available in the all in one kit for £90
