Vetements DHL 2018 Capsule.

Back when the Vetements DHL pieces were released people went crazy, they went crazy for numerous reasons.  Fashion people loved the ironic take on delivery persons uniforms.  It encapsulated the zeitgeist perfectly, as in the world of today, you would be more likely to be seeing a delivery persons uniform attached to receiving your clothes, rather than the sleek all black store staff of old.  Critics failed to grasp this, along with all the other subtle references and undercurrents the original tee incorporated, and most commented "£400 for a DHL uniform?  I would rather buy mine for £10 from DHL's online store!".

Now for 2018 Gosha's label have decided to court controversy again, with a three piece capsule, tee, polo and long sleeved polo.  The prices are still very much the same, £485 for the tee, up to £620 for the long sleeved polo, however, the pieces, which can be gotten from mrporter's online store now, lack the rebel spirit of the original.

The original collection left only the owner and those in the know aware it was Vetements, a simple DHL logo, and 3 stripes all around, no Vetements branding existed, the owner could smile to themselves ironically when asked "do you work for DHL?".  The new collection seems made for consumers who want Vetements, want the DHL "feel", but are not brave enough to risk questions like that.  Cool assymetric stitching, with "Vetements" clearly written, side branded again with "Vetements" and barcode adornments would leave no-one ever puzzling, this is clearly high fashion.  And in making it so, the impact of the original has been lost.  These are nice pieces, no doubt, but the lack the humour and daring of the first release.
