Seemingly taking inspiration from High Tech USB keys and security conscious Lap top's, Dunhill have produced a rather revolutionary little wallet.
In reality what Dunhill have in fact done is rather than PRODUCE this item they have simply followed a trend they displayed a penchant for in the past, taking stuff other people produce and branding, please see an earlier post on this blog which references their 'Provenance' cuff links, which have obviously been produced by TMB art metal. In this case the product is the 'Iwallet' produced in December of 2009, it was aimed at the geek market, in high strength carbon fiber and Kevlar with technology that can be set up to text your mobile when it is more than 15 to 30 feet from your Mobile phone, plus a unique opening mechanism that requires a swipe of the fingerprint to open, therefore bring biometric security to the humble mans wallet, we say Mans wallet, because lets be honest, not many Women are going to buy this are they? The Image below is the Iwallet version.
As you see from this image the opening mechanism is not nearly as mysterious as the Dunhill press image suggests, with a leather interior and one of those INCREDIBLY annoying money clip things, don't get us wrong, theres nothing wrong with money clips, we love em, but in a wallet all they do is annoy as when you have more than a small amount of notes in them they wallet doesn't close properly, with a conventional wallet this is merely annoying, with this it would be impossible, as without leather that can stretch so it bulges but still fits in your pocket, the carbon fiber case simply would not lock closed, so therefore you would not be able to carry a large amount of notes in it full stop, defeating the object of owning this as a wallet.
This further verifies the Geek/Nerd status of this wallet/gadget, as most people who use it would probably be more inclined towards trying to do some super advanced payment method such as 'epay' or 'mobile payment' and would only have a oyster card, Starbucks card and one credit card with perhaps a couple of notes for emergencies, in other words not for customers of dunhill or lovers of Luxury.
The original I wallet version was £450, and the Dunhill version is not that much more at only £550, any Luxury loving techno freaks who never carry more than £30 on them, get yourself to Dunhill, or Iwallet right away.
OMG . . . Saw this on engadget like 6 months ago for 200 bucks less :-o.
