The Crombie coat is one of those classic items of clothing that truly espouse all the values of English and British Clothing, Elegance, Quality and excellent value. For over 150 years they have been producing their fantastic wool overcoats, and have sucessfully covered the shoulders of some of the most influential men in the History of the 20th Century, including Kennedy, Churchill, King Edward and Prince Charles, from whom they have earned the Royal Crest.
They have not really done much with themselves for the last 10 or so years, aside from moving from their Jermyn street home to stylish new premises in Conduit Street, they have been pretty silent, simply continuing the same high quality output of product they made themselves so famous for (with the exception of taking a decision no one can quite understand to discontinue the covert coat in grey with a velvet collar).
Now however under the guidance of James Winsham formerly of Gieves and Hawkes, there seems to be somewhat of a overhaul of the entire range, and the classic has net been ommited from this either. They are releasing a new slim cut version, for the man who prefers to wear his overcoat over a shirt and sweater rather than a suit, and the have updated the iconic crombie by adding several elegant details inside, such as extra small pockets and other little touches.
And at a slightly inflated new price of £675, it still represents excellent value for an overcoat that will last 10 years or more, thats effectively the same as buying a cheapo brand £67 overcoat every year for 10 years, ad if treated well these overcoats can last longer.
