Sperry, the original Boat Shoe inventor, designer and pioneer produce 75th Anniversary shoe.

The Boat shoe is an extremely common style nowadays, more commonly seen on the streets of towns and city's than on Yachts and in boat clubs.  It's elegant yet relaxed style, along with the fact it is both hard wearing and provides grip when walking have meant it has been adopted as a go to smart casual shoe for many.

Such is its popularity that certain brands such as timberland offer the opportunity to design ones own picking each colour of each panel and the sole.  This sort of ubiquity was all started in 1935 by an American Paul Sperry, while observing how his cocker spaniel was able to walk so well on ice he wondered how, and after looking closely at the foot of his dog he noticed little wave like grooves, so he took a penknife to a loafer and tested it, after finding the difference it made, and many revisions, the boat shoe we know and love was born in 1935, and became an instant classic for all lovers of the sea.

After all these years, and all the imitators copying them, sperry have continued producing their high quality original design, with only a few additions to the ranges such as chukka ankle styles and plimsole styles.  To celebrate the 75th Anniversary of this American Original which is still going strong, they produced a special edition, which utilises all the classic branding of the original shoe, with the small addition of the 75th moniker.

Available now from Sperry's online store, or from various retailers, they cost £85, slightly more expensive than the standard boat shoe.
