Mens Winter Trend for 2011, Shearling jackets.

For the last two winter seasons one trend has become quite popular, that of the Shearling Jacket.  For many years the preserve of Used Car Salesmen, or road workers, and perennially associated with a certain type of shady character, on the edge of respectability, in the UK we would say it has a 'Wide Boy' image.

Designers have been working hard to bring this garment out of the seventies, and bang up to date, her is a selection of some of their successes for this Winter Season.

Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche Shearling Jacket - £3645 - Going for the cropped style with a trim of shearling visible on the collar makes this offering from YSL both Younger and more Versatile.

Ermengildo Zegna Shearling Short - £2640 - This Takes the short cropped style and makes it look younger still, by producing it in a metallic finish with biking details.

Gucci Shearling Jacket - £3960 - A direct homage to the Seventies, which is a direction Gucci have gone strongly with for this seasons collection, this Jacket is big, bold and heavy, a quintessential Arthur Daley Special.

Ralph Lauren Avaitor Style Shearling - £2600 - From Ralph Lauren we get a strong whiff of Howard Hughes with this elegant offering that reminds of the aviator with its trim cut and simple details.

Burberry Prorsum Aviator Jacket - £3800 - The Heavy Shearling trend that continues this season was to some extent created last season in womens wear, at the time we observed and wrote about this trend, identifying Burberry Prorsum's tour de force offering. This season is no different, and in menswear this jacket, a direct descendant of the Irwin Flight jackets we also wrote about here some 12 months ago, will make you feel like an off duty RAF officer in no time flat.
