Desa is very probably not a name many people would have heard of, in fact it most likely means nothing to you. This is surprising for a few reasons, most of which we will cover here, along with discussing the independent and gradual rise of the brand in its own right.
The first reason this brand may be significant to you as a luxury goods consumer, is the fact that it is the sole worldwide producer of Prada's Leather products, after dropping this bombshell, there is a good chance we have your attention, so lets talk a little about the companies history. Started in 1972 in Turkey, they were initially a small outfit producing leather goods for themselves only, the type of stuff one sees sold in markets, their "break" came in the mid 1980's when they secured an exclusive contract with Prada to produce their leather good's for them, Prada on uses Desa, and Desa only works for Prada, and themselves. Utilising the War chest of Capital secured from this most profitable relationship, Desa started to open their own stores, and currently have some 70 stores in Turkey alone.
Selling Leather goods in Turkey is one thing, but the brand has sought expansion, and it's first target country is the UK, the first store opened in 2004 in hampstead, and did so-so, then, in 2008 a new creative director took the brand in a totally new direction, gone was all the tired store interiors, mediocre branding, and unclear direction, and all was replaced with a clean image, clear direction, and ladies only product selection with the addition of Mens good as part of their new bespoke service.
The strategy paid off, and has resulted in a new store being opened in Covent Garden, and an ongoing flow of profit into this brand, which many outside the Fashion industry, and even some in it, have never heard of. We therefore would like to present a selection of Desa's quality luxury goods, along with the additional assurance, that as the principal maker of Prada's Leather's the quality is Prada, but the pricing is firmly still Desa, with leather Gloves around £70, Jackets around £400 and bags no more than £400 maximum.
