Vertu Signature Dragon Collection For The Lunar New Year.

We mentioned the Courvoisier L'Essence Du Dragon as a naked attempt to capitalise on the Lunar New Year, and we felt we had paid dividend enough to such pathetic attempts to profit from the Year of the Dragon, Then we saw this.  And felt that not mentioning it would be a true dis-service to the altar of money-grubbing facile attempts to monetise yearly celebrations.

It shouldn't really come as a great surprise to anyone frankly, after all, a cursory glance at the boucheron/Vertu collaborations show the extent of the Phone makers sense of excess, indeed in comparison with some offerings this is a relatively subdued affair, it's not so much the excess of it though, rather the fact that it looks like they just quickly glued a dragon logo on the back of one of their handsets and said "ta-da Chinese year of the dragon phone".

Down to brass tacks, what we have is a Vertu Signature S series, in either Solid Gold with diamond selector switch, Solid Stainless steel with an Emerald or Solid Black Stainless Steel with a Ruby, the aforementioned dragon motif does in fact have some historical significance, being the four clawed Dragon Motif which was an emblemb reserved for Chinese Noblemen and Officials, and, on the front a heavily stylised Dragon Character, in addition to this, a full Chinese language menu system, and sub menu, right down to the smallest option.

The pricing is not yet fully announced, however the Black Steel and Ruby model price is known, it will retail for £15,000, expect therefore the Stainless/Emerald to go for £10,000 to £12,000, and the Solid gold to ask for around £40,000.
