The Art'Otel Hoxton, set to open on Great Eastern Street and open in time for the Summer Olympics, has been delayed until early 2013. The Bold new project is an example of one of only a few truly newbuild luxury hotels being built in London now, one of the other being the Bulgari Hotel in Knightsbridge, and the first London Venture by Art'otel.
The 18 Storey Building has been developed by Squire and Partners, the group who with Dixon Jones are also behind the aforementioned Bulgari Hotel, and the Chelsea Barracks development. They have attempted to make the Art'otel as sympathetic to the environment as possible, with a unusual Aluminium skin covering the cylindrical building, which is designed to evoke the industrial past of hoxton, being inspired by the punch cards that used to be used on Looms that would have been heavily used in this area.
As can be seen from the images here, this will make for a unique in room experience, creating an attractive light pattern across the room, and providing a level of privacy without needing the curtains to be drawn, while still allowing the outside world to be viewed. The design also includes a Double height top floor, which will incorporate a gallery space, arthouse cinema, spa and restaurant/bar.
