Leica X2 Paul Smith and X2 Al A Carte Edition.

New from Leica and just announced at Photokina comes two special editions of their top end snapper the X2.  Following Leica's collaboration with Paul Smith earlier this year to produce a special edition series of Leather cases for the D-Lux 5, they have now gone to the next stage, and produce a limited edtion X2 coloured by paul Smith.

The camera feature a Vibrant orange top plate, and contrasting yellow bottom plate, along with a limited edition boxing, and unusual design of a hand drawn flash image on the pop up flash, each edition is numbered, and limited to 1500 units, and each will cost £2500, a £1000 premium on the standard X2, and will be on the market in October.

Alongside the limited edition X2 comes the X2 A L Carte edition, this model takes what Leica have been offering with the M series for many years, the ability to customise the exterior, and offers a limited number of customisation options for the X2.

As the images below show, the colour, and also texture of leather can be selected, along with the colour of the top and bottom panels, to either black or silver, a far cry from the complete and total customisation offered by the M series, but still, a nice touch.  No information on pricing, but it is expected to be similar to the premium asked for the limited edition Paul Smith version, meaning models will probably cost around £2000 - £2500 each.
