D'E-Light With iPhone Dock From Phillipe Starck & Eugeni Quitillet.

We actually announced the conception of this product way back in July 2011, at that time the product was under the wing of Flos, some sort of backroom wangling has gone on however, as since that point, it has become under the umbrella of the Starck brand, it full design details and specs are now available, and pricing has also been announced.

The product has been designed by Phillipe Starck, world famous giant of design, and less well known Eugeni Quitillet.  It utilises a solid aluminium core, making it both lightweight and solid, with chrome plating throughout.  A halogen bulb raises eyebrows regarding efficiency, however, it does mean you get a cool, dimmable and control-able, lighting accessory for your bedside or office space.

The true feature which makes this stand out of course is its iThing dock.  Sprouting proudly from it's stalk and allowing you to charge your iPhone, iPadand iPod, unless of course, you have an iPhone 5.  This unfortunate mis-step on behalf of the design team may go some way towards explaining why Flos offloaded it onto Starck, it's just a waste of time now, since the lightning connecter is now available, obviously all other device will follow, and in the space of a few years this will be obsolete, a bitter pill for anyone who shelled out £400 for this Lamp cum iDevice stand.

It is a sincere pity this is the case, as this is a lovely product, but then again, think of all the Car manufacturers and consumers who have iDock integrated cars, they are in possession of the worlds most expensive iDock products, and they will be obsolete also.
