Richard Mille, made famous for his exceptional and complicated watches which have redefined the top end of the luxury watch market, has announced the first in what is sure to be several sets of outstandingly engineered cufflinks.
Taking a cue from the only other top end mechanically made cufflinks on the market at present made by Roland Iten, they have gone a slightly different route, rather than a mere clever gadget for changing the appearance of the link, they have gone the route of creating an totally original mechanism for putting the cufflinks on and off.
Made from a surprising 38 components, they are apparently the result of some 2 years of research and development, crafted from the same grade 5 titanium which Mille uses for their watches, they have been hand-beveled, and satin brushed, and although quite elegant actually look quite plain to the casual observer.
it is not their look that makes them stand out, and the consumer who purchases these will be going for them for the ingenuity of their mechanism, he will probably be an existing Richard Mille watch owner, who enjoys the subtle simplicity of his exceptional and complicated wristwatches. So what is this amazing mechanism? Rather than a bar which folds to go through the cuff as in a conventional cufflink, the two logo-ed push buttons on the side cause the bars to pivot and allow the link to go through the cuff, then, when in place a simple push on the top plate causes the bars to slide back into place, holding the cufflink in its rightful position on the shirt cuff.
Available from the end of October this year, no pricing information is sadly available as yet, but expect £10,000 plus, including accordign to Richard Mille, a two year warranty.
