Grado, self styled "worlds finest headphones and cartridges", have been going strong for some 60 years now, continuously producing exceptional quality phones which go a good way towards justifying their claims. Their GS1000i clocking in at a massive £1100 per set managed to sweep the board at the awards back in 2007 on its release, and continues to be mentioned in pretty much any top quality round-up to this day some 5 years later.
Now Grado have followed some of their competitors leads and completed their first collaboration piece. They have collaborated with none other than Mr Dolce and Mr Gabbana, to produce a new set based on the reference series, and given the code DS2012, presumably as it is being released in 2012.
The set appears for the most part to be the RS2i model, with "open air" technology rather than the closed cups of other models, with Mahogony caps based on the GS1000i series in terms of wood staining and design, one assumes to give that air of exclusivity that the GS1000i series gives off.
Presented in a fairly ordinary cardboard gift box, it's clear both Grado and Dolce & Gabbana want you to know the product is the star, and you are lucky to own it, rather than you are buying a "limited edition" with style over substance. Price wise they cost £950 per set, and are available exclusively from Dolce & Gabbana boutiques worldwide. Additionally, it has not been officially stated that these are a limited edition product, but you can be pretty sure they will have been produced in small quantities, and that they will sell out quite quickly, so move fast if you want one.
