Berluti "reinvent" The Boat Shoe With Twist Boat Shoe In Leather & Canvas.

Berluti have released a boat shoe style which manages to fail in every possible fashion that a boat shoe shoe can fail in trying to achieve.

Firstly, the purpose of a boat shoe is to have a sole which grips the slippy hull of a boat, but which also does not mark it, leaving black rubberier leather marks, or dirt. These chunky rubber soles are designed to be worn in an urban environment, and are hefty black affairs.  Any skipper seeing these standing on the dock waiting to board would immediately instruct you to remove them, and be barefoot on their vessel if you don't possess non-marking soles.

Next in respect of being a boat shoe style, they fail here because frankly, they are ugly.  They use of boat shoes in everyday life has become prolific, and the style is a common sight on lazy summer days, worn sock-less, perhaps twinned with shorts and a polo top, exuding an insouciant elegance.  That can't be said of these, the chinky sole as well as being useless for the function of boating, eliminates any opportunity for casual charm, and the rigid leather, or chunky stitching, makes them look like bastard offspring of derby's and hiking boots.

All in all, these £1,500 "boat shoes" are another indication that Berluti is helmed by people with no taste, and that anything other than their classic iconic styles should be avoided.
