Mahiki London Start to produce Branded rum, surprisingly not bad.

It seems the temptation for any individual, institution or organisation that achieves even a moderate degree of success to produce branded products in this modern world is, well pretty much overwhelming, the shelves of department stores, alcohol shops, perfume shops, home ware stores and even car dealerships are overrun with the celebrity branded or company branded products from young music stars for example that have had no more than one successful album released on the market.

One area which generally tends to wait a little while until they have become a bit established is night clubs. This it has to be said is more to do with the fact that night clubs rise and fall pretty much in the space of 6 months in most cases, and only the ones that last a bit longer than that have any time to actually look around and consider 'hey lets cash in on this'.

The most successful example it has to be said come mostly from London England, Ministry of Sound in London's Grimy South East has risen to produce everything from a regular release of music CD's (the most common club related branded release) up to full branded music systems. Another London club that has become world famous is China White, hich even after closing continued to host regular Polo Matches that became Season fixtures.

Branded Alcohol is a less common Release linked to nightclubs, mostly because it just sounds too much like trying anything to make money from people, however Mahiki, the London club partly owned by London Parties (Londons Largest Night Club Promotion Company) Nick House, have released a selection of 3 rums, the link being that Mahiki is a 'Trader Vics' style bar, i would say Tiki style but its frankyl just copying Traders Vics who are a Tiki bar.

One would expect the offerings to be pretty risable, just designed to make a quick buck to cash in on the name, however, mixed by Papa Jules, premier bartender - sorry 'mixologist' - in conjunction with the Barbados distillery four square the three offerings are surprisingly good.  The white and dark rums are similar in texture to Bacardi, which is never bad, and the better of the three which is aged in cognac cask, is close to - and this is high praise indeed - pyrat planter xo.

So if you have a hankering to try it go to www.thedrinkshop.com and buy a bottle, the final point in their favour is they are pretty cheap, the cognac flavoured bottle is only £35!
