Since Johnnie Walker Have been sponsoring the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes F1 team, they have understandably been going out of their way to capitalise of the marketing opportunities such a union affords. One of their campaigns have been the "Step Inside The Circuit" one, which offers several videos of the drivers enjoying downtime, and various other initiatives designed for similar reasons.
Now to maximise their connection, they have produced an ultra exclusive blend, the "John Walker & Sons Signature Blend Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Edition", a bit of a mouthful we are sure you will all agree. The blend has apparently been created to honour the current Formula 1 champion, and member of the Mclaren team, Jenson Button, who apparently visited Shanghai to begin the process of making the blend.
Apparently Nick Morgan, Diageo's head of Outreach and blending expert guided Button through the process, which meant the blend is Button's choices, then Jim Beveridge, Johnnie Walkers master blender, created a blend with Button's palate as the guide, using only the finest whiskies, the final product is available exclusively at the Johnnie Walker House in Shanghai, on an invitation only basis, production is limited to 25 bottles, and it costs £35,000 per edition, additionally it includes an experience, which is to visit pitside at Formula 1 events, and speak with the crews on race day.
What makes this extraordinary is that it not only highlights Johnnie Walker's Formula 1 connection, but also shines a light on the personalised blending process, which was not invented for Button at all, rather it is available to all those who visit the Johnnie Walker house in Shanghai.
The limited edition is available now, but as stated, you will need to travel to Shanghai, and be invited to purchase it, but maybe while you are there, you can get one made for yourself!
