New from Comme des Garcon comes a fragrance for their "Black" diffusion line, the Black line was created in 2009, at a time of global financial crisis, and was apparently created to inspire ironic cheer, or mock depending on your perspective, to counter the "general negativity engendered by the recession". Quite how a luxury goods brand can hope to inspire "cheer" by producing a range of highly priced luxury goods is a mystery we are sure, however, for good or ill this was their mission statement, amd the brand continues to this day.
The new fragrance is trying to be as black as black can be, with Madagascan Black Pepper, Dark Somali Incense, Leather, Liqourice, birch tar and black pepperwood, all over a base of cedarwood and vetiver, all wrapped up in starkly minimalist black and white text screen printed directly onto the bottle.
The fragrance will be availabke first exclusively at Comme Des Garcons Black stores, ŵhich can be found in New York, Paris and Berlin till April 15, then worldwide from April 16, it is an Eau de Toilette which will be supplied in either 50ml or 100ml sizes, costing £45 and £80 respectively.
