"Designed by Virgil Abloh" is beginning to become a term applied to things which are not very good. We wrote about this recently in relation to the new Off White™ beauty range "PAPERWORK", and now Louis Vuitton seem to be calling on the late designer's name in relation to a pair of frankly crappy driving shoes.
This is a pity, as while Abloh has his detractor's, and many criticised him on originality post his initial application of industrial design themes to fashion, the fact is he broke ground in a number of areas. And whether his being at the helm of the largest luxury brand in the world was a strategic move on LVMH's behalf or not, he still managed to trailblaze for minorities.
So saying he is responsible in even a small way for these driving shoes that really look like they belong on a street vendors stall alongside counterfeit Goyard monogram iPhone cases is an insult. We doubt he had any input here, as these are vulgar, cheap looking and ugly.
Available for £700 a pair, in a range of LV canvas options, we hope these disappear quickly.
